Frequently Asked Questions

What precautions are you taking to prevent the spread of COVID 19?
I am currently using a disinfectant, approved by the Ministry of Health, on all surfaces you come into contact with during the course of your massage.  Any surfaces that were previously unable to be disinfected have either been removed or replaced with those that can.
Do I have to do anything differently due to COVID 19?
If you are feeling unwell, please cancel your appointment.  If you feel more comfortable attending your treatment masked, you are welcome to do so, though it is not required.
What are the benefits to massage therapy?
Massage therapy can provide relief from joint pain, limited joint mobility, back pain, headaches, chronic muscle fatigue and muscle pain.  It treats conditions such as anxiety, depression, tension, mental stress, circulatory problems, insomnia, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia and asthma.  Massage therapy can also increase the rate of recovery from minor sports injuries (strains/sprains), repetitive stress/strain injuries and whiplash and whiplash associated disorders.

Who should get massage therapy?
Massage therapy is a beneficial treatment option for people of all ages.  Evidence out of the Touch Research Institute suggests that there are significant benefits for babies, children, teens, adults and elderly individuals.  Massage therapy is safe and beneficial during pregnancy and the postpartum period.

How often will I need treatment?
Massage therapy is a very individual experience and highly dependent on the condition being treated and the goals of the client. Some people require only a few sessions to treat a specific problem, while others may make regular, ongoing use of massage therapy as both proactive and preventative healthcare.  Together, we will decide on a treatment plan that best serves your needs.

Which regions of my body get treated?
If you present with a specific musculoskeletal complaint, I will assess the condition and discuss with you what areas would be most appropriate to treat.  In the absence of a specific complaint, common areas to be treated for relaxation and stress relief can include; back, neck, shoulders, arms, legs, feet and hands.  Throughout the treatment, you will always be draped/covered, only revealing the area being treated at any one time.

Will I be sore after treatment?
Most people feel relaxed with a decrease in pain and stress following a massage treatment.  However, some people will feel mild soreness, similar to that felt after a really good workout.  This is more common of deep tissue treatments and will subside after 1-2 days, typically followed by improvements in the original symptoms.

Do I have to remove all my clothing?
No.  You will only remove the articles of clothing you are comfortable with removing.  Massage therapy can be administered directly using lotion, or over clothing.  Throughout your massage treatment, you will be fully covered with a sheet or blanket, with only the area being treated left uncovered.

Do you offer gift certificates?

Yes, you can purchase a gift certificate in any dollar amount, or for a particular treatment length.  Keep in mind that you cannot claim the purchase of a gift certificate through extended health plans.
